    Lafayette City Council created the Human Rights Commission (HRC) in 2016. The HRC is committed to evaluating Lafayette City government, programs and processes with an inclusive lens, with a goal of fostering equity, social justice and freedom from fear of persecution based on race, religious belief, country of origin, sexual or gender identity, physical ability or age. The group meets monthly in order to: ? Make recommendations to City Council on ways to improve inclusivity and diversity in the City of Lafayette ? Facilitate community conversations on issues and/or occurrences of division and conflict in the City of Lafayette, and to make recommendations for ways to resolve and eliminate these ? Research, study and make recommendations to City Council and staff regarding federal, state or local government actions that may have an effect on diversity and inclusiveness in the City of Lafayette.

We’ll look for the rings and moons of Saturn before venturing off into the far reaches of the galaxy and beyond. Bring mosquito repellent and a jacket just in case. Be prepared to have your mind blown. Program will be canceled if there is 50% cloud cover or more at the starting time. Please register beginning June 1st using the website provided on the right side of this page.

    Local artist and teacher, Lisa Michot, is coordinating this fun project. We will photo copy your photos, stories and memories to share and record your family history while contributing to a collaborative art piece. Please bring up to 3 memories that we will copy and add to the collage by June 30. In July and August we will assemble the mylar quilt/collage to display at the Senior Center during our September Senior Art Showcase. We hope you will participate in this phase, too!
