The Lafayette Youth Advisory Committee’s purpose and mission is to engage Lafayette youth in outreach, advisory, and educational opportunities through solutions-based discourse and action in their community and reciprocally, to promote understanding in the greater community as to the importance of youth leadership and civic participation. The committee may make recommendations, based on research and community-based dialogue, to the City Council on youth-related issues and other relevant topics.

The Citizens' Police Academy is a unique 12 week mini-police academy for citizens 15 and older. The academy meets once a week to explain and demonstrate many of the department's policies, divisions and functions. Areas covered include DUI investigation, crime scene investigation, felony car stops, traffic enforcement, tactics, SWAT, officer safety and more! If you have ever wondered why the police do what they do to keep you safe, apply to attend the 2017 academy! Applications and background checks are required. Applications available online and at the police department. Seating is limited, so apply today!

Formatted for little athletes (ages 3-5) inspired by gymnastics, martial arts, obstacle training, and freestyle movements.

For ages 5-15. Learn how to be safe while having fun on your skateboard! We welcome skaters of all skill levels. We will work on everything from learning how to stand and roll on your skateboard to challenging yourself with learning tricks. Build up to advanced park riding as we explore all of the different features of the amazing Lafayette Skatepark.

Local artists are invited to register and submit their art pieces to be hung from September 8-27 at the Lafayette Senior Center, 103 S. Iowa Ave. Art work must be wired and ready to hang and labeled on the back with the artist's name and category.
